Hesco Barriers :
The HESCO barrier castles were initially invented by British entrepreneur Jimi
Heselden, a former miner, in the 1980s. In 1989, he established
HESCO Bastions to promote and sell his patented product.
The HESCO barrier castles were originally designed for the rapid
construction of flood barriers. For instance, during Hurricane
Katrina and Hurricane Rita in New Orleans in 2005, a large number
of HESCO barrier castles were used to resist the flooding from
heavy rains. Similarly, in June 2008, during the floods in the
American Midwest, an 8,200-meter-long barrier was constructed using
HESCO barrier castles. In March 2009, a 10,700-meter-long HESCO
flood barrier was constructed in Fargo, North Dakota.
